The Ministry of Education has been awarded the prestigious UNESCO Wenhui Award for Educational Innovation in the Asia-Pacific Region, recognizing the success of Telikilaas, the national initiative that ensured uninterrupted learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The award highlights the project “Continuity of Education during Pandemic: Broadcasting of Lessons on National TV Channels (Telikilaas)”, which received USD 20,000 as part of the UNESCO honour.
Javaabu Pvt Ltd was acknowledged for its role in supporting the Ministry through the development of the Filaa Online Portal (https://filaa.moe.gov.mv/), the platform used to share Telikilaas lessons digitally. The portal expanded access to televised lessons, enabling thousands of students to continue learning despite nationwide school closures.
The Ministry noted that Telikilaas has become a model for crisis-response education in the region, combining broadcast media and digital platforms to ensure equitable access to learning.
Javaabu expressed pride in contributing to an initiative that has now gained international recognition, stating that the success of Telikilaas demonstrates the impact of innovative, collaborative solutions in strengthening the country’s education system.
