Javaabu Highlights Opportunities and Challenges of Local AI Development at Maldives IGF 2025

Javaabu participated in the Maldives Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2025, where Javaabu Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Arushad Ahmed and Machine Learning Research Engineer Ahmed Yameen delivered a session focused on the realities of developing local Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for the Maldivian context.

The presentation explored a range of critical topics, including the limitations of global AI models in serving low-resource languages, the importance of culturally grounded datasets, and the need for locally tailored language models. The speakers highlighted how global systems often deprioritise niche linguistic communities, underscoring the urgency of building AI technologies that ensure cultural preservation, linguistic continuity, and inclusive access.
