Maldives Innovation and Digital Company (MINDCo) and Bank of Maldives jointly held a stakeholder engagement session with private sector representatives as part of ongoing efforts to establish the National AI and Data Competency Centre (NADCC), a key initiative under the Maldives 2.0 Digital Transformation agenda.
The session, held on 2nd April 2026 at MINDCo, brought together local developers, technology companies, and IT professionals to share industry insights, discuss innovation opportunities, and explore how the NADCC can support the Maldives’ growing technology ecosystem. The meeting was open to the general public, encouraging broad participation and diverse perspectives.
Javaabu Co-Founders Mohamed Jailam and Arushad Ahmed participated in the session, contributing to discussions on the future direction of AI development in the Maldives.
During the session, Jailam emphasised the importance of building widespread AI awareness and literacy, highlighting the need for sustained, long-term collaboration with the private sector rather than one-off initiatives. He stressed that consistent engagement and capacity building are key to developing a resilient and future-ready AI ecosystem.
Arushad highlighted several potential areas for collaboration, including infrastructure provision, developing human resources for data labelling, establishing national benchmarks, conducting AI research, and ensuring data sovereignty. He noted that these foundational elements are critical for enabling meaningful and scalable AI innovation in the country.
The engagement underscored the importance of close collaboration with industry partners to ensure that the NADCC is practical, accessible, and aligned with the needs of both the private sector and the broader digital economy.
Javaabu extends its sincere thanks to MINDCo for the special invitation to participate in this important discussion and looks forward to continued collaboration. The company hopes that the establishment of the NADCC will play a significant role in advancing AI development and innovation in the Maldives.
