On the occasion of World Radio Day 2026, Javaabu Co-Founders Mohamed Jailam and Arushad Ahmed joined a national panel discussion on “The Future of Radio with Artificial Intelligence,” hosted by Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu (Voice of Maldives), the national radio of the Maldives.
This year’s global theme, “Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI is a tool, not a voice,” framed the discussion around how emerging technologies can support — rather than replace — the human essence of radio broadcasting.
The panel featured four speakers: Deputy Managing Director of Public Service Media (PSM) — parent company of VoM, Abdullah Yamin Rasheed, IT Specialist and former radio host Ismail Aiman, Javaabu CEO Mohamed Jailam, and CTO Arushad Ahmed. Together, they explored the evolving relationship between radio and artificial intelligence.
Discussions centered on the opportunities AI offers the broadcasting industry, including workflow automation, content enhancement, audience analytics, and operational efficiency. Panelists noted the potential for AI to reduce costs while helping radio stations reach new and younger audiences through digital transformation.
The conversation also addressed AI ethics, including the risks of misinformation, synthetic media, and fake news. Emphasis was placed on responsible implementation, transparency, and maintaining editorial integrity in an AI-enabled environment.
“AI should be used as a tool. The human must always remain in the loop — especially in media, where trust is everything.
”
Jailam also highlighted how Javaabu’s recent partnership with PSM can contribute to improving Dhivehi AI models using data generated from radio broadcasts. During the discussion, he gave a sneak peek into the next generation of Dhivehi text-to-speech technology currently being developed at DhivehiGPT, Javaabu's premier Dhivehi AI platform.
Arushad spoke about the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and how these developments could potentially lower entry barriers for smaller stations, enabling more innovation and diversity within the radio industry.
The Javaabu team extends warm greetings to all radio listeners and professionals across the broadcasting sector, acknowledging the important role they play in informing, educating, and connecting communities. Javaabu also extends its sincere appreciation to Voice of Maldives for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful national conversation on the future of radio.
