Javaabu and PSM Sign MoU to Bring Iconic Voices to DhivehiGPT TTS

Javaabu and Public Service Media (PSM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to license selected iconic voices from PSM's intellectual property archive for use in DhivehiGPT's Text-to-Speech (TTS) service. The agreement was signed on 10 September 2026 by Javaabu Co-Founder and CEO Mohamed Jailam and PSM Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb.

The agreement marks another step in the ongoing collaboration between Javaabu and PSM to develop Dhivehi Artificial Intelligence technologies, while creating new opportunities to preserve and celebrate voices that have become an important part of Maldivian broadcasting history.

Reviving Iconic Voices Through AI

Through the collaboration, Javaabu will work with PSM to bring selected voices associated with some of the broadcaster's most memorable productions into the digital era through DhivehiGPT's TTS technology. The initiative aims to celebrate the narrators and personalities behind these familiar voices while introducing them to new generations through emerging AI applications.

The first voices planned for release include the Haamaanu voice from the Mohamed Rasoolullaahi series, voiced by Ibrahim Rasheed (Ibbe), and the Seerath voice of the late Haajaraagey Thaufeeq. These voices are expected to become available on DhivehiGPT soon, with additional voices from PSM's archive planned for future releases.

Given the cultural significance and recognisability of these voices, they will be introduced with enhanced safety moderation on DhivehiGPT to help prevent misuse and support responsible use of the technology.

Creating New Value from PSM's Archive

The MoU establishes a mutually beneficial licensing arrangement under which PSM will receive a commission from paid usage of the licensed voices on DhivehiGPT. The model creates an opportunity for PSM to generate new value from its extensive intellectual property archive while supporting the continued development of locally built Dhivehi AI technologies.

For Javaabu, the collaboration expands the capabilities of DhivehiGPT's locally developed AI ecosystem, which includes proprietary Dhivehi Speech-to-Text, Text-to-Speech, OCR and language technologies. By working directly with local content owners and rights holders, Javaabu aims to build Dhivehi AI services that recognise and create value for the people and institutions behind culturally significant content.

Building on the Javaabu–PSM Partnership

This agreement follows the general MoU signed between Javaabu and PSM in November 2025, which established a broader framework for collaboration on locally driven AI innovation and digital technologies. The new voice licensing initiative represents one of the practical outcomes emerging from that partnership.

Javaabu looks forward to bringing these iconic voices to DhivehiGPT and continuing its work with PSM on initiatives that combine technology, local intellectual property and Maldivian heritage. More exciting collaborations between the two organisations are expected to follow, In Sha Allah.
