Javaabu participated in the Co-Creating P8 | Private Sector Dialogue session organized by MINDCo in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, held at Meeruma Hall on 15 April 2026. The session, aligned with the Maldives 2.0 roadmap, focused on Pillar 8: Digital Economy Development & Innovation, bringing together key stakeholders from both public and private sectors.
The workshop created a collaborative platform to explore opportunities, challenges, and priorities shaping the future of the Maldives’ digital economy. Opening remarks by MINDCo Managing Director Saeedha Umar set the tone for a day of open dialogue and cross-sector engagement.
Throughout the session, speakers highlighted the importance of strengthening the foundations of the digital economy — including infrastructure, regulation, education, and private sector participation — to drive sustainable growth and innovation. Presentations covered the broader digital economy landscape, startup ecosystem development, GovTech initiatives, and frameworks to enhance public-private collaboration.
Key discussions explored initiatives such as the GovTech Alliance and GovTech Marketplace, emphasizing how shared platforms and partnerships can enable innovation at scale. The session also highlighted sector-focused co-creation opportunities in areas such as digital health, artificial intelligence, urban mobility, and citizen engagement, alongside the need to build a digitally skilled workforce.
Representing Javaabu, CEO Mohamed Jailam highlighted key challenges facing the local tech ecosystem, particularly the shortage of skilled professionals in the Maldives. He emphasized the difficulty in finding talent with relevant qualifications and noted the need for stronger alignment between education and industry demands. Jailam also discussed how government support — including equity funding and assistance in scaling products to global markets — could play a crucial role in empowering startups and driving innovation.
Arushad Ahmed, CTO of Javaabu, shared perspectives on the proposed GovTech Marketplace, raising concerns about transparency and the potential risks associated with subscription-based participation models. He also contributed to discussions on the newly proposed agile procurement framework, highlighting the importance of clearly defining prototyping processes and vendor selection mechanisms to ensure fairness, efficiency, and accountability.
The dialogue concluded with reflections from private sector representatives, reinforcing the importance of sustained collaboration between government and industry. Participants emphasized that building an inclusive and innovative digital economy requires continuous engagement, shared vision, and long-term commitment from all stakeholders.
Javaabu extends its sincere appreciation to MINDCo and the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade for the opportunity to contribute to this important national conversation. The company remains committed to supporting the growth of the Maldives’ digital ecosystem through innovation, collaboration, and the development of impactful technology solutions.
