Public Service Media (PSM) has officially launched PSM Koyaa, a new interactive educational app for children developed by Javaabu under its ongoing partnership with PSM. The app's development was led by Javaabu Co-Founder and CEO Mohamed Jailam. The platform was officially launched by PSM Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb at a special ceremony held at Television Maldives (TVM) on 27th October 2026.
Designed to make learning Dhivehi fun, interactive, and rewarding, PSM Koyaa combines educational activities, artificial intelligence, creative tools, and live television integration to offer children a unique digital learning experience.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, PSM Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb highlighted the educational value of the new platform and its integration with TVM programmes. He noted that the app would provide a valuable learning experience for children while allowing them to engage with television content in new and exciting ways. He also encouraged parents and children to make good use of the platform.
Javaabu Co-Founder and CEO Mohamed Jailam also addressed the ceremony, highlighting the importance of collaboration between state-owned enterprises and the private sector in driving meaningful technological innovation. He described the development of PSM Koyaa as a positive example of how such partnerships can deliver valuable digital services to the public and encouraged other public sector organisations to explore similar opportunities.
Having led the development of the app, Jailam also highlighted its innovative AI-powered features, particularly their potential to support Dhivehi language learning among children. He emphasised the importance of developing technology that promotes the use of the Dhivehi language among younger generations, while making education more accessible and engaging.
Recognising that the platform is designed specifically for children, Jailam also drew attention to the special safety features incorporated into the app. Child safety has been a key consideration throughout development, with particular attention given to creating an age-appropriate environment for learning and entertainment. He concluded by expressing his appreciation to PSM for the opportunity to collaborate on the initiative.
PSM Koyaa brings together a variety of educational and entertainment features designed to encourage children to learn, explore, and participate:
Interactive Trivia: Real-time multiplayer trivia games that allow children to participate in interactive competitions, including live leaderboards integrated with TVM broadcasts.
AI-Powered Learning: Curriculum-aligned quizzes and worksheets powered by artificial intelligence, developed with a focus on the Dhivehi language.
Creative Activities: Digital colouring pages that encourage creativity, imagination, and artistic expression.
TV Integration: Interactive experiences that connect children with PSM television programmes, bringing together traditional broadcasting and digital participation.
Child-Focused Safety: Special safety features designed to provide an age-appropriate digital environment for young users.
Through these features, the app aims to make learning more enjoyable and rewarding while encouraging children to develop their Dhivehi language skills through play, creativity, and interactive activities.
The development of PSM Koyaa is part of the collaboration established through the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Javaabu and PSM in November 2025. The agreement focuses on advancing locally driven artificial intelligence innovation and digital technologies within the Maldivian media landscape.
An early preview of the app was previously showcased by Javaabu at the 21st Asia Media Summit 2026, held in the Maldives in May. During the summit, Javaabu CEO Mohamed Jailam presented a video demonstration highlighting the app's interactive capabilities, child-focused design, and integration with emerging AI technologies.
The official launch marks an important milestone in bringing the project from development to public availability, demonstrating the potential of partnerships between public institutions and local technology companies to create innovative digital experiences tailored to Maldivian audiences.
PSM Koyaa is now available to download for free on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Children and parents can also access the platform through its official website at Koyaa.mv.
Javaabu extends its sincere appreciation to Public Service Media for the trust and opportunity to develop PSM Koyaa. The team looks forward to continuing collaborations that advance local technological innovation, promote the Dhivehi language, and create meaningful digital experiences for future generations.
